LegalZoom Renews on Its Calendar. Vermont's Report Runs on Yours.

Vermont registered agent representation, billed at $99 per year. Includes the office address on your filings, same-day scanning of legal mail, and reminders for state deadlines.

Disclosure, before the comparison. Vermont Registered Agent.co is a competitor of LegalZoom's. We hold Vermont agent appointments for $99 a year and we want yours. Everything below that is attributed to LegalZoom comes from LegalZoom's published pages, checked in July 2026, quoted as written.

The Brand Buys Something

LegalZoom is the name people know. For a first-time owner who is worried about getting a filing wrong, that recognition is worth real money, and there is nothing foolish about paying for it. Reassurance is a legitimate product.

It is just not a Vermont product. Nothing about the name changes what the state expects from an agent.

$249, Automatic

The price is $249 a year. It renews itself. Our July 2026 check found no discount on the opening term, so unlike most of this field there is no promotional year to graduate out of.

Credit for the flatness. The thing to notice is the automation. Renewal is the default and the burden of remembering falls on you, which is fine every year except the one where you meant to leave.

Two Calendars Run Your Vermont Company

This is the part worth sitting with.

Their calendar is a fixed anniversary date. LegalZoom sets it, LegalZoom charges on it, and it has nothing to do with Vermont.

Yours is set by your own books. Vermont's annual report is due within three months after the close of your fiscal year on record, per 11 V.S.A. § 4032, which means the state hands different companies different deadlines on purpose. Close your books on December 31 and the window is the first quarter of the following year. Close them on September 30 and it runs October through December. No single statewide due date exists, which makes any one-size alert useless unless your accounts happen to close on the last day of December.

The fee for that report is $45, and the older $35 figure still floating around older guides will not cover it.

So one of your two calendars is a billing convenience and the other is a compliance obligation with real consequences. Paying $249 does not synchronize them. It buys the same agent duty a $90 provider owes: a Vermont street address, someone available through the working day, and served documents moved along without delay.

What We Do for $99

Our address goes on the public agent line so yours does not. Service of process is imaged and out to you the same working day it arrives. The portal keeps every document indefinitely. Reminders are keyed to your Vermont report window rather than to a generic date. The renewal notice says $99 because the first invoice did.

Fair warning on our own figure, though: somebody advertises less. BetterLegal, at $90. So the accurate line is that we are among the lowest published Vermont rates, not the lowest one.

Ten years of LegalZoom at the published price is $2,490. Ten years of ours is $990.

Filing the Vermont Change That Removes LegalZoom

One filing does it, and it is called a Statement of Change. Fee: $35, payable to the Secretary of State and processed by Business Services. One portal handles it, bizfilings.vermont.gov, run by that same office, and no envelope is involved anywhere. That is also why there is no form number; Vermont does not print a paper version to number. You enter the entity, the agent leaving, and the agent arriving with a Vermont street address.

Now the clock nobody tells you about. A Vermont agent can quit for free, and the quitting becomes effective on day 31, counted from the date the office logs it. Thirty-one days, then the line on your record is empty. If a provider ever starts that countdown, it is already running while you are still deciding what to do about it, and the last thing you want is a lawsuit delivered to an address whose occupant formally walked away three weeks ago.

You do not have to wait for anyone to resign. Appoint us, submit the $35 change, keep checking Vermont's entity lookup until the record updates, and cancel LegalZoom after that. Cancel it deliberately, too, by ending the subscription rather than by letting a card expire, because a declined payment removes nobody from a Vermont public record. A couple of overlapping weeks costs a few dollars. A gap costs considerably more.
